Angama sits on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, a thousand feet above the Mara Triangle. The name is Swahili for suspended in mid‑air, which is exactly what the place looks like.
They grow their own food down at the Shamba, and that is really why I am going. A whole month cooking out of one garden, in one place, watching the same ingredients change week to week. I have not had that on this trip.
September is also the migration, moving across the floor of the valley below the lodge while service is happening above it.
Thirty tented suites up there. Thirty seats in New York. I did not plan that, but I am taking it.
