Kruger Shalati is a restored train parked permanently on the Selati Bridge, over the Sabie River, inside Kruger National Park. You sleep in a carriage suspended above the water. Animals come to drink underneath you.

The bridge is the original crossing where Kruger’s first warden welcomed travellers arriving by rail in the 1920s. They put a hotel back on it.

Three nights here. I have cooked in some strange rooms on this trip and this is the one I keep thinking about. You sleep over a river inside a national park, and three nights means there is no second service to fix anything.
